Today I want to share some ideas for how to style vintage trunks like a pro! I was inspired to write this post because I LOVE old trunks and recently found two amazing ones that are available in my Pomona Antique Mart shop.
Trunks come in so handy. I always pick them up when I find them at estate sales and thrift stores if they are a good price. If I decide not to keep them myself, they sell pretty quickly from the shop.
I try to find ones in decent condition...but I usually don't care if handles are broken or locks don't function. There are so many ways to use trunks around the house and you can move them easily if their purpose changes. Here are some ideas for how to style vintage trunks around the house....
Trunks make great side tables and coffee tables. I feel like this is kind of an obvious one! Find one the right size and height for your space, or stack a couple together if needed.
I've always wished for space in my house to just stack a bunch of vintage trunks and suitcases! I love this look and it actually provides a lot of storage too. Family photos, old year books, table linens, seasonal decor....the list goes on. You can use vintage trunks for storing so many things.
I'm not super handy but adding legs to a trunk seems easy and will raise it up to just the right height you need. If I ever find the time and feel confident enough, I want to try this myself. I especially like the look of hairpin legs! I also love the idea of doing this with wooden crates and vintage suitcases.
I've always thought a vintage trunk mini bar is clever and they are perfect for small living spaces. I did this with one of my own old suitcases last year and it turned out great!
I've also made my own vintage trunk cat bed, which was super easy. One of our cats took to it right away! All you really have to do is add a blanket or soft pad. And if the suitcase or trunk has pockets, it provides a great place to keep toys.
Vintage trunks make great props for a rustic style wedding. You can use them to hold cards or takeaway gifts for guests. I found this great post with 40 ways to use vintage suitcases in your wedding decor. It has lots of cute ideas.
Why not turn your vintage trunk into a little succulent garden!? I've actually never seen this idea until now, but I like it! I think I would just line the trunk with something so that the dirt and water don't do too much damage.

I am loving this idea for upcycled vintage chandelier crystals via Two Purple Couches blog. She has a step-by-step tutorial posted for turning old chandelier crystals into beautiful necklaces using suede cord and a few standard jewelry-making supplies.
